When to call QUT
It is important to address any problematic issues early on with the student and to advise the university liaison visitor. Our philosophy is that there should be no surprises for the student. This maximises opportunities for successfully resolving issues. Because Social Workers are engaged with vulnerable and disadvantaged people, we have a duty of care to students and agency clients. Fortunately that happens only rarely, but when it does, it is usually very stressful for student, supervisor, agency and university staff.
Please contact the QUT Liaison Visitor where there are concerns such as:
- A student is constantly taking time off for illness, or is late consistently and despite your discussions with them, this still continues
- You are concerned about the student’s mental health state or emotional wellbeing
- The students performance is inconsistent; or "hit and miss", despite numerous debriefings and conversations.
- The student is not fulfilling the agreed projects and tasks consistently, and is not proactively discussing this with you.
- The student demonstrates an unwillingness to learn despite consistent discussions.
- The student displays consistently inappropriate value judgements about clients, staff and there has been no shift in this despite ongoing discussions.
- You are concerned the student will not pass the placement.
